 Kids Birding Club Team Wins 2nd Place in Statewide Competition

May 10, 2008.  The "Edinburg Kingfishers", a team of five kids from the wetland's Kids Birding Club,  finished in second place during the 2008 Great Texas Birding Classic.  The team, who competed in the Roughwing division of the contest, set out to identify as many birds as they could in eight hours in different areas of the valley.  To read about their fun/exciting/challenging day, check out the Kingfisher Blog.

 

Edinburg Community Garden Update.

May 1, 2008. The EWBC's Community Garden is due to open this fall for our very first growing season. We're very excited about our project and can't wait to get our hands dirty!  We're still looking for volunteers to help with  construction and or other projects. Give us a call at 381-9922 if you'd like to help out.

We would also like to thank the following organizations which have so generously given their support to our project:

  • Spectra Energy donated $1000 and their labor to put in a split rail fence and orchard trees.
  • The Edinburg Rotary Club donated $2000 and has volunteered to help with the construction of the garden beds.
  • Workforce Solutions is sponsoring a  temporary Community Garden Coordinator to work on the project.  The Coordinator has been busy doing research, contacting and coordinating volunteers and otherwise preparing for this Fall's grand opening.
  • The McAllen Recycling Center has pledged to donate $500 of compost, topsoil, and mulch to the project.

RGV Coastal Expo Thank You's!

March 4, 2008.   The 2008 RGV Coastal Expo was a GREAT Success.  We had over 4,000 partici-pants during this two day event in March.  We thank our many hundreds of volunteers and exhibitors for their time and labor.  We would also like to thank our Sponsors, including HEB, Dominos, Peter Pipers, Pappa Johns and many others!
