EWBC's Community Garden & more!
May 8, 2008. A lot has happened here at EWBC these past few months. Here is a run down of past events, current activities and upcoming opportuntiies.
This spring, EWBC has started working on building a Community Garden at our site. It will be a volunteer run program with support from our center. We are excited to have the Edinburg Community invovled, and expect to have the beds ready for planting by spring. We are also very pleased to announce support from a number of local organizations.
To date:
Spectra Energy has donated $1000 and their labor to put in a split rail fence and Orchard trees into the garden.
Edinburg Rotary has donated $2000 and their labor towards the construction of the beds in the Garden. They will put the beds in this summer.
Workforce Solutions is sponsoring a "Community Garden Coordinator" for six months to work at our site. The CGC will be contacting and coordinating volunteers, participants and instructors for the big kick-off this Fall.
McAllen Recycling Center will donate $500 of compost, topsoil and mulch to the project, for participants to use in the beds this Fall.
If you would like to be involved with the Community Garden, please contact us at (956) 381-9922.
